The search for the next principal at Conway High School closes this Tuesday, June 16, as Horry County Schools will begin a rapid process to choose the schools next leader following the departure of Tanika McKissick.McKissick was named Horry County Schools' Director for Academic Programs at last week's HCS Board of Education meeting.She will begin the role on July 1.HCS opened the job immediately — on Tuesday, June 9 — and it is set to close on Tuesday, June 16, a one-week application period.An Horry County Schools spokesperson told MyHorryNews that the goal is to have a new principal in place at Conway High for the 2026-27 school year.A graduate of Conway High, McKissick served as the principal at Conway since July 2020.Before that, she was an assistant principal at CHS since 2012.In an email to Conway High staff on Monday, McKissick called her hiring "bittersweet".She shared a more detailed reaction to her hiring on Facebook last week: "One of the things that excites me most about this new opportunity is that I will be able to continue supporting Conway High School while also serving students and schools across Horry County, including our elementary and middle schools."I look forward to using the knowledge, experiences, and skills I have gained to help strengthen academic programs, expand opportunities for students, and support success across the district.Although I will be serving in a different role, my commitment to Conway High School will remain unchanged, and I will continue cheering for its students, staff, and families for years to come." McKissick began her teaching career in Horry County at Whittemore Park Middle School in 1999 and taught there for two years before moving to Columbia.Among other stops before returning to Conway, she spent seven years teaching math in Henrico County Schools in Virginia.
