People make their way to the Port Dalhousie Supper Market by foot, car, bus and bike, but arriving by boat, from as far away as Burlington, was something organizer Christopher O’Connor wasn’t expecting. So he’s been pleasantly surprised to meet patrons over the last couple of years who tell him they sail over from yacht clubs in Vineland and beyond to take in the regular Tuesday night summer gathering in Lakeside Park.“I couldn’t believe it, honestly.I thought this was just a neighbourhood barbecue, but it’s actually very impactful beyond our immediate border.” The annual Port Dalhousie Supper Market kicks off June 23 and runs every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m.to sunset in Lakeside Park until Aug.It’s free to attend and features food trucks, live bands and, this year, corn hole games. The event, which began in 2015 and has been run and operated since 2019 by O’Connor and his Port Dalhousie Supply Company team, has grown through word of mouth to several hundred guests a night at any given time.O’Connor said people have rallied around the event and the team has found a formula that works.“We have Grandma’s recipe, I like to say.We have all the right ingredients, we know the right portions and we don’t change it,” he said.“We have local music, great food, local beverages and fantastic weather. That is the recipe. And if we can get all that together on one day, then we have success.” The market will have eight food vendors with pizza, Texas-style barbecue, Vietnamese food, ice cream and more, including new addition Kelly Greens offering light and healthy options.Local Niagara beer, wine and cocktails will be on the menu with non-alcoholic lemonades and beverages.Live music will be featured at every event, with performances through the summer by Figure Four, Tin Roof, Feverish Lemons, Arythmics, Neon Dirty, Usual Suspects and xPrime.“It’s always free to attend. You can come down with your lawn chair and hang out with us if you don’t want to spend any money and have a good time, but of course if you want to come down and have some food and drink, you sure can too,” O’Connor said.O’Connor said he’s looking forward to two special nights.Tuesday, June 30 is the evening before the July 1 holiday, which offers the opportunity to tie in some Canada Day celebrations and have a crowd anthem sing.Another special night will be on July 14 when the St.Catharines fire department brings its giant ladder truck water sprinkler for everyone who wants to play in the spray and cool down. The supper market has partnered with two community organizations this year. The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara and Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre will be holding 50/50 draws on alternating nights.O’Connor suggests people carpool to the supper market, if they are not taking public transportation, biking or sailing, because the parking lot can get busy. They should also check social media on rainy days for the event’s status.Up-to-date information can be found on Instagram at @PortDalhousie and on Facebook at the Port Dalhousie Supply Company.“I personally feel like we’re going to have a really good year. We’ve got some new things, some new vendors, new tastes and talents for people to try.And to me, variety is the spice of life,” he said.“So, you know, it might look and feel and sound the same, but come and experience it and you will find something different every time.” Error!Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again. You may unsubscribe at any time.By signing up, you agree to our terms of use and privacy policy. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google privacy policy and terms of service apply.Want more of the latest from us?Sign up for more at our newsletter page.
