'We're just here to help': Concert raises money for Nippon Dynawave disaster victims | kgw.com.LONGVIEW, Wash.— Support continues to build in Longview, as residents gathered this week to raise money for the families of 11 workers killed in the Nippon Dynawave paper mill disaster.RELATED: Impacts of deadly Nippon Dynawave chemical tank failure still felt keenly as mill closure continues On Tuesday night, crowds lined up outside the Columbia Theatre, for a benefit concert dedicated to the victims.The sold-out event featured performances by Washington musicians Cort Carpenter and Dakota Robins.Organizers said the concert raised $35,000, with all proceeds directed to the victims' families."I think all of us have been touched by losing somebody, someone we know, or someone our children went to school with," said Roberta, who attended the event.The disaster has deeply impacted the tight-knit community.Attendees at the concert said they felt compelled to help in any way they could."It's so surreal; it's hard to imagine something like that if you were these families," said Jack Degoede, another attendee."We're just here to help." "The community is just heartbroken," said Sandy Hooper, who also purchased a concert ticket."I wish I could give more; I'm reaching down deep to figure out how I can give more." The outpouring of support extended beyond the theater.Elsewhere in Longview, Mary's Bar and Grill hosted a raffle as part of Delta Waterfowl's weekly fundraiser, dedicating the day's proceeds to the victims' families."Every penny right now helps those families," said raffle organizer, Adam Teig."We care a lot about each other.Even when we have differences, whether it's politics or religion, everyone's coming together."
