Plympton-Wyoming Picnic in the Park rescheduled for Saturday | The Sarnia Observer.Plympton-Wyoming's fifth annual Picnic in the Park has been rescheduled for Saturday in McKay Park in Wyoming following poor weather forecast last weekend.Plympton-Wyoming’s fifth annual Picnic in the Park has been rescheduled for Saturday in McKay Park in Wyoming following poor weather forecast last weekend. The free event with family activities and information booths staffed by community groups and safety organizations runs from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m.“It started after COVID as a way to get the community to come out and get together again,” said Brad Burnard, who chairs the Plympton-Wyoming events committee.“We called it Picnic in the Park even though there’s really no picnic taking place,” he said. But four food trucks will be in the park selling food for attendee, who in past years have numbered 1,000 to 1,200, Burnard said.“It’s a big event that’s looked forward to,” he said.“Everything is totally free, except the food.” Late last week, organizers scrambled to move this year’s event in the park, originally set for May 23, to this coming Saturday after looking at the forecast.“Mother Nature was not on our side,” Burnard said.It was the first time the picnic had to be rescheduled, but a Canada Day event also organized by the committee two years ago fell victim to the weather, he said.About 13 groups are expected to have booths at Saturday’s event to spread the word about their programs and volunteer opportunities, he said.“We also run the safety day that has always been supported by Enbridge and there’s various safety groups that come out to talk about what they’re able to provide to people in emergencies,” Burnard said.About a dozen safety organizations are expected to take part this year. There are also activities for children, including the popular Broadway Express train ride, he said.“The park will actually look full, which is great,” Burnard said. The band, Miscellaneous, returns to perform in the park.“Come out and enjoy some, hopefully, sunshine,” Burnard said.“It’s supposed to be nice.” The municipal events committee holds special events through the year at locations across Plympton-Wyoming, Burnard said.Postmedia is committed to maintaining a lively but civil forum for discussion. Please keep comments relevant and respectful.Comments may take up to an hour to appear on the site. You will receive an email if there is a reply to your comment, an update to a thread you follow or if a user you follow comments.Visit our Community Guidelines for more information.
