Muscatine police identify six victims killed in shootings; community holds vigil.Muscatine police identify six victims killed in shootings; community holds vigil MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine police have identified the six people killed in a series of shootings Monday that authorities believe stemmed from a domestic dispute involving members of the same family.Police on Tuesday identified the victims as Lesa McFarland, 51; Dakota Whitlow, 32; Austin Harris, 29; Ryle McFarland, 20; Mark McFarland, 16; and Ryan McFarland Jr., 13.The victims' names were read aloud during a community vigil Tuesday evening as residents gathered to mourn the losses.The Muscatine Community School District said two of the victims were students and two others were district employees.The district is providing counselors and other support services for students and staff at Muscatine High School, Susan Clark Junior High School, Madison Elementary School, McKinley Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School.According to police, the shootings began Monday afternoon at a home on Park Avenue, where officers found four people dead.Investigators later discovered two additional victims — one at a residence on Mill Street and another at a business on Grandview Avenue.Police identified the suspected shooter as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland.Officers said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge.Authorities said all six victims are believed to be family members of the suspect.The investigation remains ongoing.In a show of support for those affected, the Norbert F.Beckey Bridge was scheduled to be illuminated in purple and gold Tuesday night in honor of the families.
