Moberly community supports local fundraiser in honor of Kayla Huff.MOBERLY − A long line full of teens and adults stretched outside of Gilded Lily Tattoo as the Moberly community gathered to support a local fundraiser for Kayla Huff.The 16-year-old went missing on May 6.After a week of searching, her remains were found by a volunteer searcher on May 13 in the Rudolf Bennett Conservation Area.Kristina Stockton and Dustin Ritch wanted to fundraise for the Huff family and create an event to let the Moberly community know they are not grieving alone.Stockton has lived in Moberly since 2020 and met the family while working at a local gas station.She said she has talked a lot with Kayla's father, Mike Huff, and wanted to do something nice for the family.“We want to make sure the family knows that they’re not alone in this and they have support from the whole community not just close friends," Stockton said."They can reach out and talk to any of us if they need any kind of help or somebody to listen to and vent to.” Sixteen-year-old Kayla Huff was missing for a week before charges were filed in connection to her disappearance.Here's a timeline.Between noon and 8 p.m., community members were able to get piercings and tattoos at Gilded Lily Tattoo.For every piercing, $5 were donated to the Huff family and for every tattoo, $30 were donated.Those at the event could also make donations to a GoFundMe, to Kaylas' mother's Venmo and through cash.All of the proceeds went directly to the Huff family to help with funeral costs, lost wages, bills and other family expenses.Elizabeth Power, a Centralia resident, heard about the fundraiser through Facebook.Although she's not from the town, her siblings teach in Moberly, and she said she wanted to show support for the Huff family during this tragic time.“Honestly it’s a good cause to support the family in their time of need and everything 'cause (my daughter is) 14 and I mean anything can happen," Power said.Power and her daughter both got piercings at the fundraiser.Around 7 p.m., community members gathered behind Moberly City Hall to prepare for the vigil ride in honor of Kayla Huff.The vigil ride began at 8 p.m.and vehicles traveled 11 miles around the heart of Moberly, highlighting key community places.Ritch said he hopes the vigil brings the people of Moberly together and reminds them they are not alone, even through tough times.“(We're) able to go through town and show folks ‘Hey we’re going to stand united and come together as a community despite the tragedy,'" Ritch said."We’re still standing.” Hundreds of people gathered at Moberly Area Community College on Wednesday to celebrate the life of Kayla Huff.Earlier this week, community members gathered at the Moberly Area Community College for a celebration of Kayla Huff's life and visitation.Six people have been arrested in connection to Kayla Huff's kidnapping and murder.
