Nurse accused of sexually assaulting hospital patient in Phelps County.Nurse accused of sexually assaulting hospital patient in Phelps County PHELPS COUNTY, Mo.(KY3) -A Tennessee man has been accused of sexually assaulting a patient while she was receiving treatment at a hospital in Phelps County.Court documents state James Todd, 42, of Ripley, Tennessee, is charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy or attempt, one count of first-degree rape or attempt, and one count of first-degree sexual abuse in this case.According to the Rolla Police Department, on June 5, police were dispatched to Phelps Health Hospital at around 12:30 a.m.for a report of a sexual assault in an emergency room.Once on scene, the victim stated that James Todd, a contract nurse at the hospital, had sexually assaulted her while she was in the emergency room.In an interview with police, the victim said that she arrived at the hospital around 8:15 p.m.on June 4 due to low potassium levels.Once she was transported via ambulance to her room at the hospital, Todd came into her room and placed an IV in her arm.Todd then allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.The victim stated that Todd was not wearing a name tag during the time of the crimes.Police later interviewed Todd.He stated that when he first made contact with the victim, she was “very intoxicated and belligerent,” with an alcohol level of 0.344.Todd said to police that there was no inappropriate contact outside of standard nursing care, according to the probable cause statement.Law enforcement obtained footage from a Phelps Health security officer, which police say shows alleged sexual acts committed by Todd to the victim.Todd is being held in the Phelps County Jail without bond.To report a correction or typo, please email digitalnews@ky3.com.Please include the article info in the subject line of the email.Copyright 2026 KY3.All rights reserved.
