Officials identify Johnston man who died following standoff.Officials identify Johnston man who died following standoff The Polk County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday identified the man killed after allegedly firing at officers Monday in Johnston as Austin D.Mark, 44, of Johnston.According to the sheriff's office, deputies, members of the U.S.Marshals Task Force and Johnston police were attempting to serve a judicial order at a residence in the 5700 block of Linden Court around 3:20 p.m.on Monday.Authorities said Mark, who was wanted on active felony warrants, barricaded himself inside a garage and refused repeated commands to surrender.As officers gained entry to the garage, investigators say Mark fired shots at law enforcement officers.Officers returned fire.A Polk County deputy was shot during the exchange and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Mark died in the incident.Officials said a fire was also set during the incident, prompting a response from the Johnston/Grimes Fire Department.The Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are continuing to investigate.No additional information was released Tuesday.Officer-involved shooting leaves suspect dead, officer injured after garage standoff in Johnston Lt.Mark Chance gives update on officer-involved shooting following Johnston standoff » Subscribe to KCCI's YouTube page » Download the free KCCI app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play
