It runs from June 12 to 26 at three spots across the region. All three spots donated entry fees from gaming events to the food bank. Players can pay their entry fees with canned food instead of cash. The fundraiser happens at Cardboard Castle Games at 3836 Washington Road, Express TCG in North Augusta at 616 Edgefield Road, and Express TCG in Harlem at 710 Point Bluff Parkway. Cardboard Castle Games and Express TCG kicked off the first Harvest Cup on Friday. This fundraiser comes as the food bank tries to make up for USDA budget cuts. Jonathan Baker, hunger relief network coordinator, mentioned the organization depends on local volunteers who know families needing help. "It's all about communities investing in themselves and coming out and helping each other and helping their neighbors," Baker said, per WRDW. "And so, we definitely see that happening here at Blythe." The organization is conducting distributions across its 24-county service area in Georgia and South Carolina as part of the Summer Harvest Program. No registration was required. Kendra Benjamin, Blythe Elementary PTO president, said the need in the community is higher because the area doesn't have schools passing out summer meals like neighboring towns do. The area also lacks grocery stores. "It's filling a big void. So we don't have a big grocery store. Dollar General is our only store," Benjamin said. "And it's a lot of people that need help out here. So it's helping lots, tremendously. We really need it." The food bank plans to keep bringing summer distributions to small communities like Blythe.
