Lowe told reporters Wednesday he likes feeling appreciated.He said, "It makes me feel good and makes me feel happy." And the kids there to celebrate with him were happy to show their thanks.Fifth grader Zyan said, "He’s always kind to you, and he always tells you to wait so you don’t get hurt when you’re crossing the road.He wants you to wait so he can help you cross." Lowe takes his responsibilities seriously.He ended his interview promptly at 7 a.m.so he could start monitoring the intersection, and he said he's never missed a day of work."Without me, they won't get across safely.They need their crossing guard to make sure they get across safely," he said.Lowe estimates he helps 60 kids cross the street each day.He told Maine's Total Coverage he plans to continue working as a crossing guard for years to come.
