Next week at Greeley City Council: Second 2027 budget update.The Greeley City Council on Tuesday will receive a second update on the city budget, which city staff reports has an $18 million deficit that will need to be covered through department cuts and voluntary staff separations.The council will also receive an update on the MERGE Program, for which voters approved a $65 million debt issuance in the November 2024 election.What we are watching - Budget and Policy Director Nathan Mosely will present budget proposals from Finance, Budget, City Manager’s Office, Fire Department, Police Department and Office of Emergency Management.Each department had its own budget-cut minimums to present to the council, with fire and police needing to cut only 4%, and the City Manager’s Office and the Office of Emergency Management needing to cut 25% of their budgets.- Deputy City Manager of Infrastructure Brett Naber will present an update on the MERGE Program and the ongoing coordination with the Federal Highway Administration, the United States Department of Transportation and the Colorado Department of Transportation.Additional items - Water & Sewer Director Sean Chambers will present a master plan for Phases 1 and 2 of the Poudre River Restoration Initiative in hopes of convincing the council to reprioritize the program.The council had agreed to fund the initiative for $500,000 if they provided a detailed work plan and proposed deliverables.Afterward, the council will enter into an executive session to receive legal advice, determine positions and instruct negotiators for the 2026 Greeley Fire Fighters International Association of Fire Fighters Local 888 (L888) collective bargaining agreement negotiations.The public is invited to attend council work sessions in person or remotely.Work sessions are intended for council discussion and overview of key topics and will not be open for public comment.The work session will begin at 6 p.m.Tuesday at the City Council Chambers at City Center South, 1001 11th Ave.You can also attend the session remotely at greeleyco.portal.civicclerk.com, where you can also view the agenda for further information.
