Police: 18-year-old charged with neglect after kids test positive for THC.Police: 18-year-old charged with neglect after kids test positive for THC EVANSVILLE, Ind.(WFIE) - Police say an 18-year-old from Henderson is under arrest on charges of Neglect of a Dependent.This happened Friday night around 6:00 p.m.EPD says two, 4 year-old juveniles were being transported from Henderson to Deaconess Gateway Hospital.The juveniles were unresponsive but breathing.Police say one the juveniles appeared having a seizure.One officer stopped a 16 year-old female, along with 18-year-old Kiasia Thomas of Henderson.Police spoke to ER staff who said that they had given Narcan, which appeared to have little to no affect on the children.The staff advised that they had been informed that the children had possibly gotten ahold of a THC vape.Toxicology reports later showed that both of the juveniles tested positive for THC and were placed in ICU.Officers transported Kiasia Thomas to EPD Headquarters where detectives spoke with her.They asked her if she was responsible for the two juveniles.She advised they are her nephews and she had been watching them since Wednesday.Police say Kiasia Thomas lives with the two juveniles in Henderson.Kiasia advised she was placed in a hotel by their insurance company for housing due to an issue at their residence.Kiasia said she doesn`t drink or smoke THC, she only vapes, but she knows her juvenile friend smokes and vapes THC.Kiasia advised she didn`t know of her juvenile friend bringing any THC with her to Evansville.On Thursday, Kiasia and her friend took her nephews to a pool in Henderson.They all swam and went back to the hotel that night.The juveniles were up until approximately 1:00 a.m.until Kiasia told them it was time to go to bed.At about 5:00 a.m.Friday, Kiasia`s friend woke her up and asked her, “Have you seen my cart.” Kiasia was half asleep and tossed her a nicotine vape.Kiasia woke up again at 1:00 p.m.when Kiasia`s mother called and wanted to go out to lunch.Kiasia attempted to wake the children up and get them ready.The juveniles were very tired and lethargic.The juveniles screamed and cried until Kiasia gave up and let them go back to sleep.At approximately 2:00 p.m., Kiasia had some fast food delivered.One of the juveniles woke up and ate a little before passing out again.Kiasia decided to take to them to the hospital, but thought their health insurance would only be covered in Kentucky.Kiasia and her friend loaded her nephews in the car and drove them to Deaconess Hospital in Henderson.They waited for a long period of time and were told it would be a longer wait by the staff.They loaded her nephews up again took them to Urgent Care, where they were told they couldn`t help them there, the juveniles needed to go to the hospital.Kiasia was upset, feeling as if no one was helping her.Kiasia found a Henderson Police officer.The officer assisted Kiasia and called for an ambulance, which transported them to Deaconess Gateway.Kiasia asked her friend if she had any with her that could hurt her nephews.The juvenile friend advised she only has the THC cart.Kiasia was place in custody and transported to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.Copyright 2026 WFIE.All rights reserved.
