Memorial Day ceremonies happening in Anchorage and Mat-Su.The Municipality of Anchorage will host a Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning to honor fallen service members.The Anchorage Remembers Memorial Day event is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.Monday on the Delaney Park Strip, on West Ninth Avenue between I and L streets.The ceremony includes speakers, patriotic music, spiritual words and a laying of wreaths.Other events in Southcentral Alaska to commemorate Memorial Day include: Fort Richardson National Cemetery Memorial Day ceremony, noon Monday, 58-512 Davis Highway on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Music will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the opening ceremony will begin at noon.The keynote speaker will be Verdie Bowen, director of the state Office of Veterans Affairs, and Tony Martinez, director of the Fort Richardson and Sitka national cemeteries.The right-hand traffic lane at the Richardson Gate will be dedicated to controlled, direct access to and from the National Cemetery to help streamline public access.Between 10 a.m.and 12:15 p.m., visitors will not need to stop at the Richardson Visitor Control Center to receive a visitor pass.Those visiting outside those hours will need to obtain a pass.Mat-Su Veterans Wall of Honor Memorial Day ceremony, 1 p.m.Monday, 801 Wasilla-Fishhook Road The ceremony will include wreath presentations along the Wall of Honor.All are welcome.
