FEMA Hosts Joint Damage Assessment With Harrison County Townships - Northwest MO Info.FEMA Hosts Joint Damage Assessment With Harrison County Townships Harrison County Township representatives met with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Agency to review the damage assessments realized by townships due severe storms which largely affected the county on May 16th through May 18th.The meeting is part of the second stage of the public assistance process for townships.It is called the Joint Damage Assessment.Records and photos were taken by FEMA officials from township representatives.The FEMA and SEMA officials also authenticate damage with on-site visits.If Harrison County meets a $40,000 damage assessment, Harrison County could be included in the application for a major disaster declaration submitted by Missouri.Governor Mike Kehoe’s office would have the responsibility of that appeal.Any state appeal would then be sent to the federal government where the President would ultimately determine if Missouri would be issued a Presidential Disaster Declaration.If that declaration would become available, counties could be reimbursed for 75 percent of the eligible costs which are a result of the disaster.Until the process reaches that stage, townships and Harrison County will need to find a way to finance the repairs, and in particular, the emergency repairs.Townships have been encouraged to practice documentation of damage and costs with the condition that the damage declaration is ultimately a decision of the federal government.
