Suspect in Virginia deputy killing spotted on wildlife camera in North Carolina | wcnc.com.SURRY COUNTY, N.C.— A wildlife camera captured suspect Michael Puckett on Greenhill Road in Surry County at 6:56 a.m.Sunday, authorities said, as a massive multi-agency manhunt continues in the Cana, Virginia area.The sighting marks the first confirmed location of Puckett since he fled on foot following Friday night's shooting that killed Carroll County Deputy Logan Utt and wounded a second deputy.Deputies were dispatched around 9:26 p.m.Friday to a residence on Fancy Gap Highway after a family member requested a welfare check.When they arrived, investigators say Puckett opened fire on the responding officers.Deputies returned fire.Utt was fatally wounded and died from his injuries.A second deputy was struck in a ballistic vest and is in stable condition.Virginia State Police, the FBI, U.S.Marshals Service, ATF, Carroll County Sheriff's Office and North Carolina law enforcement are among the agencies currently involved in the operation centered in Cana, Virginia.The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Wytheville Field Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident.Marshals Service is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to Puckett's arrest.Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Division Four Dispatch at 540-444-7788 or call 911 immediately if he is spotted.Residents in Carroll County, Virginia, and Surry County, North Carolina, are urged to lock their vehicles and homes.Stay with WFMY News 2 for updates.
