JEFFERSON CITY — On Friday evening, six newly certified law enforcement professionals were recognized at the Lincoln University Law Enforcement Training Academy graduation. This was the 19th class to graduate from the academy, which began training in 2021. The academy currently has a 98% placement rate. Lincoln University Police Chief Gary Hill said he wants the graduates find a department that supports them best. "My hope for the graduates in this class is just one thing: Find an agency that you like and be happy to be able to be in this field," Hill said. All six of the graduates' plan to stay in the mid-Missouri area and work for neighboring police departments, including in Jefferson City, Lebanon and Cole County. While none of the current graduates are coming to the Columbia Police Department, CPD's academy has nine officers to be in training. Graduation for them is expected to be in August of this year.
