Here's who's running in Door County for spot on November ballot.Here's who's running in Door County for spot on November ballot Door County citizens will have several contested races for county and state offices in the Aug.11 partisan primary election as candidates turned in their signature-filled nomination papers by the June 1 deadline.Candidates who advance through the primaries will face off in the Nov.3 general election, which of course includes races for U.S.Congress.Door County offices that are up for election this fall are sheriff and clerk of circuit court.Current Sheriff Tammy Sternard is running for reelection to a third term as a Democrat, veteran Door County Sheriff's Office personnel Carl Waterstreet and Curt Vandertie will compete for the Republican nomination to the seat, and law enforcement veteran Randy Wagner is running as an independent candidate.For the circuit court clerk's race, Democratic candidates Shannon Lauder and Pamela Parks will vie for the nomination to join Republican Rebecca Rericha on the November ballot to replace incumbent Connie DeFere, who is not seeking reelection.Most offices at the state level are up for election this November, including the Wisconsin Senate and Assembly seats to determine who represents Door County in Madison.The District 1 Senate seat, which is for a four-year term to represent Door, Kewaunee and Calumet counties and parts of Brown, Outagamie and Manitowoc counties, is open after incumbent Sen.Andre Jacque decided to not run for another term.Katie Baney, Barbara Bittner, Nic Cravillion and Jacob VandenPlas filed to run as Republicans and will compete in the primary, with the winner facing independent candidate Mark Becker.No one filed papers to run as a Democrat.The District 1 Assembly seat, which covers Door and Kewaunee counties and the far northern part of Brown County, has incumbent Rep.Terry Kitchens seeking reelection on the Republican ticket against Democratic challenger Renee Paplham.The term is for two years.Also on the ballot will be the race for Wisconsin governor to replace the retiring Gov.Tony Evers.Candidates on the crowded Democratic side who submitted nomination papers are Sara Rodriguez, Mandela Barnes, Joel Brennan, Missy Hughes, Francesca Hong, David Crowley and Kelda Roys, while Tom Tiffany and Andy Manske submitted papers to run as Republicans.The Wisconsin Elections Commission was continuing to validate the signatures on gubernatorial nomination papers as of June 2; declared Democratic candidate Kirk Bangstad submitted papers but did not have enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.Three Democratic candidates filed papers to challenge incumbent Rep.Tony Wied, a Republican, in the race to represent Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District, which covers most of northeastern Wisconsin including Door County, in the U.S.House of Representatives.Rick Crosson, Katrina deVille and Mark Scheffler face off in the Aug.11 primary for the chance to run against Wied in November.Contact Christopher Clough at 920-562-8900 or cclough@usatodayco.com.MORE: Door County lighthouse museum to hold grand opening after 2-year restoration project MORE: Door County North announces first-ever Liberty Grove Art Stroll FOR MORE DOOR COUNTY NEWS: Check out our website This article originally appeared on Green Bay Press-Gazette: Here's who's running for Door County offices in the Aug.11 election
