Ramsey County board to hold public hearing on proposed salary increase.Ramsey County board to hold public hearing on proposed salary increase The Ramsey County board of commissioners will hold a public hearing on June 16 on a proposed 3.5% salary increase for commissioners.If approved, the increase, effective Jan.1, would increase board members’ salaries from $107,199 to $110,951.The board chair’s salary would increase from $112,559 to $116,499.The salary ordinance must be passed by July 1 in order to go into effect in 2027.The board is expected to approve the proposed salary increase for 2027 at a June 23 meeting.The seven-member board typically sets commissioner salary increases at a rate that matches general wage increases for county employees in the previous year, according to county officials.Ramsey County employees received a general wage increase of 3.5% in 2026.Ramsey County is the only county in Minnesota that requires an ordinance to change commissioner salaries.The ordinance requires 10-day notice to the public and a public hearing.Other counties, such as Hennepin County, may choose to vote on commissioner salaries.Commissioners are awarded $800 per month for everyday expenses they incur while working as elected officials, according to county officials.Commissioner aides receive $400 per month.In Ramsey County, salary increases also were approved last year for 2026, going from $104,077 to $107,199 for commissioners and from $109,338 to $112,559 for the chair.The current annual salary for commissioners in Hennepin County is $134,754, up from their 2025 salary of $128,337.Dakota County commissioners in 2026 have a base salary of $106,689 and Washington County commissioners have a base salary of $88,051.The public hearing will be held at 9 a.m.on Tuesday, June 16, at the Ramsey County Courthouse at 15 West Kellogg Blvd.Paul in council chambers.Members of the public who want to comment during the hearing can register ahead of time.More information on how to register or share comments with commissioners can be found at ramseycountymn.gov/chiefclerk.
