Cole County man pleads guilty in 2024 death at a Jefferson City bar.A Cole County man pleaded guilty Friday in connection with a 2024 death, according to court records.Kamari Alexander Balton pleaded guilty to an amended charge of first-degree involuntary manslaughter.Prosecutors said Balton recklessly caused a man’s death by striking him on or about Aug.17, 2024, in Cole County.Balton was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection to a reported fight at a Jefferson City bar.The plea came after prosecutors filed an amended charging documents Friday.Balton entered the guilty plea without a sentencing recommendation, meaning the court will decide his sentence later.Court records show the state agreed to cap its sentencing request at seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.A sentencing advisory report was ordered and is due June 22.Balton is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m.July 7 in Cole County Circuit Court.Court records show Balton was originally indicted in September 2024.The case had previously been set for a jury trial in December 2025 before the trial was canceled.
