State House candidate draws bipartisan criticism for Pride Month post.State House candidate draws bipartisan criticism for Pride Month post HARTFORD, Conn.(WFSB) - A candidate for state office is drawing attention for a recent post on social media during Pride Month.Republican Jadon MacCormack is running for the 50th District. On his campaign page on Facebook, he wrote in part, “Happy Straight Month! It’s American to be Anti-Pride Month, this is America’s 250th Anniversary!” Leading state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are condemning his statements.House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora said the statements “were immature and reckless, and they show a candidate who isn’t ready for the responsibility he’s asking voters to give him.” Democratic leaders Matt Ritter and Jason Rojas said “it is sickening to think that this candidate wants to spew this kind of poison in the people’s chamber.” The Young Democrats of Connecticut released a statement saying MacCormack posted “a deeply disturbing anti-LGBTQ+ message declaring ‘Happy Straight Month’ and pledging to fight against transgender and LGBTQ+ people in the state legislature.” The group said violent, threatening and antisemitic posts from MacCormack have also been discovered.“This is not an isolated incident; it is part of a clear, unvarnished pattern of hate.MacCormack has repeatedly used his platform to push blatant homophobia and antisemitism, proving he is entirely unfit to represent a diverse community,” the Young Democrats said in the statement.Ned Lamont also released a statement condemning MacCormack’s comments.“The hateful comments made repeatedly by this Republican candidate for public office are unacceptable and completely out of step with Connecticut values.Connecticut is a state that welcomes people, respects differences, and believes everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.Hate and discrimination have no home here, and I will continue to stand with the LGBTQ+ community to ensure our state remains a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected,” Lamont said.MacCormack has since doubled down on his statements.Copyright 2026 WFSB.All rights reserved.
