At least eight people were hurt Tuesday evening when an armed carjacking suspect led police officers on a chase from Culver City to downtown Los Angeles, according to police. The Culver City Police Department said Juan Luis Estrada hit four pedestrians in Culver City, then an additional two pedestrians during the pursuit. He also struck two children traveling on an e-bike, hitting a total of eight people and several other vehicles during his rampage, police said. Among those he struck was a Culver City police officer. About an hour after he carjacked the vehicle, he struck four pedestrians and then took off. He then struck another vehicle and also fled the scene. “The officers locate the suspect in Culver City and witness him attempting to strike pedestrians with his vehicle, Jennifer Atenza of the Culver City Police Department said. “He's seemingly targeting them as he's traversing through the city. He's running through red lights, traveling at high rates of speed at various times, and driving on the wrong side of the road.” After locating him with surveillance technology, officers located Estrada and a car chase ensued. The rampage came to an end when the suspect crashed into another vehicle head-on in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s in downtown Los Angeles. Law enforcement said the victims who were hit by Estrada ranged in age from 15 to 70 years old. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were said to be in stable condition, police said on Tuesday.
