DODGE COUNTY, Wis.— A man from Oakfield faces felony charges in the death and disappearance of his wife from Beaver Dam.43-year-old Aaron Nelson is charged with 1st degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.He was arrested on May 15 by Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies in connection to the case of his missing wife: 42-year-old Alexis Nelson.According to the criminal complaint, Alexis’ mother got a text on the evening of May 7, 2025 where she allegedly told her mother “been meaning to tell you that we moved to Missouri”.Her mother tried to get her mailing address, but Alexis never responded.The last message she got from Alexis was a “Happy mother’s day” text on May 11, 2025.At the end of October 2025, Alexis’ mother reported to Beaver Dam police that she hadn’t heard from her daughter in six months, and described the husband Aaron Nelson as “controlling”.When police arrived at the Nelson’s residence in Beaver Dam, the property owner told them that “Aaron Nelson had last leased that apartment in May or June of 2025”.Cellphone records showed that Alexis’ phone stopped communicating with the local network on May 21, 2025.Court records show that on March 30, 2025, Aaron Nelson “purchase[d] a 32 gallon Rubbermaid Brute trash can at Menard’s in Beaver Dam” and then on April 2, 2025, Aaron Nelson was a “no-show at work”.That same day, Aaron Nelson created a new Facebook page with the name “James Nelson”.When officers viewed this page in November of 2025, his relationship status was listed as “widowed”.Investigators found that before the end of May 2025, Aaron Nelson was paying rent for his apartment and a storage unit in Beaver Dam.He then allegedly removed his belongings from both locations into girlfiend’s residence sometime at the end of June of 2025.Court documents show that in December of 2025, the girlfriend confirmed to officers that Aaron Nelson told her that Alexis had “died of cancer”.Police later learned that the engagement ring the girlfriend was wearing was Alexis’ wedding ring.A search warrant of the girlfiend’s property found the 32 gallon Rubbermaid Brute trash can in a shed.DNA testing and swabs from the can showed that it is consistent with the DNA from Alexis.The Crime Lab also located a small amount of blood on the lower east wall in the storage unit Aaron previously owned.Three swabs of that blood also showed consistent DNA from Alexis.A cadaver dog also located the scent of “decaying human remains” present near the east wall of the bedroom and under the sink in the kitchen area of the apartment previously owned by Aaron Nelson, along with the trunk of Nelson’s car.Alexis’ remains have still not been located in this investigation.Aaron Nelson made his first appearance in court on May 18.Cash bond was set at $1,000,000.00, and he is due back in court on May 27 for a review hearing, and his preliminary hearing on May 28.If convicted on both charges, he faces life in prison.
