Ex-county court administrator to be sentenced after pleading guilty to embezzling VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich.— A former court administrator for Van Buren County will be sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to to embezzling over $100,000.Rachel Celeste Lindley, a 42-year-old former Paw Paw resident, began working for Van Buren County as the Specialty Courts Administrator in 2016 before moving into the Trial Court Administrator position in April 2021, managing millions in grants for Van Buren County treatment courts along the way.For her her specialty courts work, Lindley secured more than $2.9 million dollars in federal grants.Investigators recorded Lindley's embezzlement happening between January 2022 and March 2025, after she moved to her Trial Court Administrator position.The Michigan Trial Court Administration Reference Guide defines the position as a manager of court business under the authority of judges, particularly the court's chief judge.Duties depend on the court, however, can include administering juries, handling budgets, administering and supervising personnel and automating systems.In August 2025, a Michigan State Police (MSP) investigation into Lindley led to her arrest and subsequent felony charges for embezzlement of $100,000 or more and embezzlement by a public official.- Previous Coverage: Former court administrator charged with embezzling over $100K in grant money As of her initial arrest, Lindley lived and worked in Maryland.Lindley plead guilty to embezzlement of $100,000 or more in January, according to court records, and prosecutors dismissed her lesser charge.Lindley faces up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000.
