Tuberville names Daphne veteran Kenya Thomas as May.Last week, U.S.Tommy Tuberville, R-AL, recognized Daphne resident and U.S.Army Reserve Staff Sgt.Kenya Thomas as his May “Veteran of the Month” in a video released on Facebook and X, … This item is available in full to subscribers.Last week, U.S.Tommy Tuberville, R-AL, recognized Daphne resident and U.S.Army Reserve Staff Sgt.Kenya Thomas as his May “Veteran of the Month” in a video released on Facebook and X, formerly Twitter.Thomas, a Cullman native, enlisted in the Army Reserve at age 17 and served for more than a decade after graduating from high school in 1986.During her military service, she specialized in telecommunications and helped keep military communications secure, according to a news release from Tuberville's office.Tuberville praised Thomas for a lifetime of service to veterans, military families and her community.“Oftentimes, the simplest act of service can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us,” Tuberville said in the release.“For Staff Sergeant Kenya Thomas of Daphne, Alabama, this is certainly true.She has spent her whole adult life finding ways to care for fellow veterans and active service members.” After her military service, Thomas returned to school to become an ultrasound technician.Tuberville noted that as a breast cancer survivor, she has shown compassion to patients and others facing difficult circumstances.Thomas also has devoted years to supporting deployed troops and injured service members.Tuberville said she made 150 pillows during one summer and sent them to Marines serving in Afghanistan.After learning that a Marine who served with her stepson had been severely injured in the Middle East and was recovering at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Thomas made and delivered 75 additional pillows for him and other injured soldiers.In Baldwin County, Thomas has spent the past 12 years serving as the North Baldwin County coordinator for Toys for Tots, helping provide toys to hundreds of local children.“It’s an honor to recognize Kenya as the May ‘Veteran of the Month,’” Tuberville said.The full video is available on Tuberville’s Facebook page, X account and YouTube channel.Tuberville’s office is accepting nominations for the 2026 “Veteran of the Month” series.Constituents can nominate Alabama veterans by emailing press_office@tuberville.senate.gov.
