Janesville man sentenced after crossing state lines to bring underage girl back to his home.Janesville man sentenced after crossing state lines to bring underage girl back to his home JANESVILLE, Wis.(WIFR) - A Janesville man gets federal prison time after authorities say he traveled to North Carolina and brought a young girl back with him to his home.Adam Gurney, 30, of Janesville, was sentenced to five years in prison for receiving child pornography.He pleaded guilty to the crime in February.Investigators say in June 2025, Gurney met a 17-year-old girl on Discord who lived in North Carolina.After learning she was a minor, Gurney traveled to North Carolina twice to have sex with her.He then brought her back to Janesville with him after his second trip.Federal prosecutors say Gurney told others online he was grooming the teen and received pornographic images of her.Gurney was arrested and charged in August 2025 following an investigation involving Wisconsin and North Carolina law enforcement.At the sentencing, the judge noted that based on his searches, Gurney knew what he was doing was illegal.Gurney reportedly claimed he believed he was “saving” the teen from her home life, which the judge rejected.Once Gurney is out of prison, he will be on 10 years of supervised release.He was also ordered to pay a $5,000 assessment.Copyright 2026 WIFR.All rights reserved.
