Voting glitch during GOP convention draws controversy.ROCHESTER, Minn.— A voting glitch during the Minnesota GOP's gubernatorial endorsement has sparked controversy and could reshape the Republican primary race.Kendall Qualls won the party's endorsement after 10 ballots. But technical problems during the voting process have raised questions about the outcome.Representative Duane Quam (R- Byron) attended the event and was disappointed by the technical errors, but does not think the glitches affected the results."The big surprise was, the first vote where it was just [Demuth & Qualls], it looked as if there were several 100 people that didn't vote, or the vote didn't go through," Rep.Quam said."It was disappointing, it was a two hour period before they did the reset, and got everything functional again." Qualls dismissed concerns about the glitches affecting the final result. He pointed to his performance in straw polls across the state as proof of his support."Our convention results were a confirmation, not an upset," Qualls said."We've had 18 different debates and straw polls throughout the state of Minnesota, I've won 16 out of 18 of those straw polls." The technical issues and lengthy voting process could prompt House Speaker Lisa Demuth to run for governor despite the endorsement going to Qualls.Political analyst Rayce Hardy said the circumstances create an opening for Demuth to challenge the endorsement."I'm putting my money on Demuth running," Hardy said."Originally, she said 'I'll stick to whatever happens at the convention', but I think with it taking 10 ballots to endorse a candidate, there's that question of validity." Hardy predicted a three-way Republican primary."It's going to be Qualls, who won, and then Lindell, and then Demuth," Hardy said."I think there's going to be three on the GOP side this year." The filing period for candidates ends June 2.
