Sex offender sliced into tent on hiking trail, kidnapped two women inside: cops.Sex offender sliced into tent on hiking trail, kidnapped two women inside: cops TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore.(WKRC) - A convicted sex offender was accused of slicing into a tent on a hiking trail and kidnapping two women inside before binding and blindfolding them.According to a release from the District of Oregon's U.S.Attorney's Office, the incident occurred at around midnight on July 4, 2024 on a public hiking trail.Gene Arnold McLenithan, 58, was accused of cutting into the victims' tent and kidnapping them."McLenithan bound the victims, covered their eyes, and, after a period of time passed, told victims he had planned to sexually assault them," the release read.According to court records obtained by The Oregonian and the Statesman Journal, McLenithan threatened the victims with a bag of knives and said it was "not worth" their lives to fight back against his sexual assault.Through an unspecified means, the women were able to escape McLenithan's capture.McLenithan was convicted of sodomy in 2000 and burglary in 1999, the outlets reported.For the 2024 incident, McLenithan was charged with kidnapping and attempted abusive sexual contact.
