Cassidy Villeneuve is proud to announce her candidacy for Itasca County Attorney. Villeneuve is running for Itasca County Attorney because she believes that as prosecutors, they have a duty to communities to ensure public safety and hold people accountable for their actions. Communities deserve a justice system that responds to crime, supports victims, and works every day to keep neighborhoods safe. Prosecutors must work closely with law enforcement in order to enforce the law fairly and consistently while exercising sound judgment and compassion where appropriate. Villeneuve has had the privilege of working in the Itasca County Attorney’s Office for over four years. She is currently the most senior Assistant County Attorney in the Office, bringing extensive courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the challenges that the Office faces. During that time, she has prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases, from petty misdemeanors to the most serious felony offenses. Prior to joining the Itasca County Attorney’s Office, Villeneuve worked in the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office, where she began her career as a prosecutor. The County Attorney’s Office is also responsible for juvenile prosecutions, child protection matters, and a variety of civil cases. Throughout her career as a prosecutor, she has successfully handled cases in each of these areas, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities of the County Attorney’s Office. As a fifth-generation member of this community, Villeneuve has a deep personal investment in the future of Itasca County. Her family has lived, worked, and raised children here for generations. She understands the values that make this community strong, and she is committed to preserving them for future generations. She attended school in Deer River and at ICC (Minnesota North College) prior to obtaining a BA in psychology and attending Baylor Law School, a Christian school in Texas. Before law school, she worked in the mental health field which has shaped her approach to prosecution. She recognizes that accountability and public safety can work hand in hand with efforts to address the underlying causes of criminal behavior. She is proud to have helped implement the Itasca County Mental Health Court and currently serve as its prosecutor, working with community partners to improve outcomes while maintaining accountability. Villeneuve humbly asks for your support and your vote. If elected, she will bring experience, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to public safety to the Office of Itasca County Attorney. Her vision is to have an office that holds people accountable for their actions while working closely with law enforcement partners. She will work hard to keep Itasca County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
