MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- The 118th Representative District Committee for the Republican Party has announced the formal process to fill a vacancy in the Illinois House of Representatives following the resignation of State Representative Paul Jacobs, who stepped down after years of service. This coming after the Republican Party’s 59th Legislative District Committee selected Paul Jacobs to fill the vacancy in the Illinois State Senate following the resignation of former State Sen. Dale Fowler. Under Illinois law, the vacancy will be filled through an appointment process to select a replacement who will serve the remainder of Jacobs’ term in the 104th General Assembly. In accordance with 10 ILCS 5/25-6(a), vacancies in the Illinois General Assembly must be filled within 30 days. The 118th Representative District Committee is composed of Republican leaders from across the district, including: - Evelyn Caldwell (Chair, Alexander County) - Kyle Morgan (Chair, Jackson County) - Rex Wilburn (Chair, Pulaski County) - Stan Hunter (Chair, Union County) - Stephen Stanley (Chair, Williamson County) The committee will meet on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois to select Jacobs’ successor.
