LaSalle Parish has increased access to high-speed internet thanks to the GUMBO program.LaSalle Parish has increased access to high-speed internet thanks to the GUMBO program GUMBO program expands high-speed internet access in LaSalle Parish LASALLE PARISH, La.(KNOE) — Louisiana’s GUMBO broadband program is expanding high-speed internet access in rural communities, giving residents and businesses more reliable service.In LaSalle Parish, at least 180 households now have high-speed internet through the effort.Supporters say improved connectivity can help schools, employers and remote workers by providing consistent service.State Sen.Glen Womack said the program could open new opportunities for the town of Olla.“It’s just gonna energize our whole parish, our whole state,” Womack said.“Seeing these things come for our communities, for our children, for our school, for our workforce.” Olla resident Madge Bailey said the change is already saving her money.“Now that I have Brightspeed at $49.99 fiber vs.$129.99,” Bailey said.“It allows me to use my money for other purchases.” State Rep.Gabe Firment said expanded broadband is a key step toward ensuring every household and business in rural Louisiana has access to affordable service.“This is just one step in making sure every single residence — every single business — in my parish, in rural Louisiana, has access to affordable and reliable high-speed internet,” Firment said.State leaders say broadband expansion is expected to support additional improvements across LaSalle Parish.Copyright 2026 KNOE.All rights reserved.
