Local coffee chain closes drive-thru location in south Louisville.Local coffee chain closes drive-thru location in south Louisville Fern Creek drivers hoping to pick up a piping hot Heine Julep from the Heine Brothers Coffee drive-thru on their way to work will find themselves disappointed.The first-ever drive-thru-only location from the chain at 7701 Bardstown Road has closed after three years in operation.A sign posted at the location reads "Our Fern Creek Location is Permanently Closed." The coffee brand opened the 600-square-foot fast-coffee concept in January 2023, when Heine Bros introduced the spot as the brand's "Tiniest Heine in all the land" on Instagram.The space was designed by architecture firm Luckett & Farley and built by McCormick Construction & Development, The Courier Journal previously reported.Small, drive-thru shops have been in vogue on Louisville’s coffee scene since 2021, with nearly 20 locations of popular brands like 7 Brew Coffee and Scooter’s Coffee now open in the area, driven by consumer's desire for convenience.More restaurant news: Ohio-founded ice cream chain to open first-ever Kentucky location At the time of the drive-thru shop's opening, Mike Mays, co-founder and president of Heine Brother’s coffee, wrote in a news release that the company had developed the idea during the COVID-19 pandemic and he was “excited” for the new opportunities having a drive-thru could bring, while utilizing a smaller parcel of land.As of June 9, the location is still listed as active on the company’s website.However, the store is listed on Google as “permanently closed," and phone calls to the location were met with an automated message saying the number had been “changed, disconnected, or no longer in service.” Multiple requests for comment from The Courier Journal were not returned.On the gray wooden exterior of the building, the company reassures customers that despite the closure, “the same fair-trade coffee, friendly faces, and community you know and love” are available at one of its other Louisville-area locations.Reach business reporter Olivia Cyrus at ocyrus@usatodayco.com.This article originally appeared on Louisville Courier Journal: Heine Brothers Coffee closes drive-thru-only location in Fern Creek
