Maryland town recognized with prestigious national honor.Sykesville receives national recognition with Great American Main Street Award Sykesville celebrated an honor that recognizes the town with a big award.The Downtown Sykesville Connection received the Great American Main Street Award, which is the nation's highest honor that recognizes excellence in preservation-based economic development and downtown revitalization.Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman talked about why it was easy to see why the town deserved the award."There's always something going on in Sykesville and that doesn't happen by accident," Lierman said."It takes intention, it takes progress and it really takes persistence to build what you have built." Sykesville is the first Maryland community in more than two decades to receive this national distinction.The last Maryland municipality to win the award was Downtown Frederick in 2005.
