Kearney man sentenced after injecting meth, shooting at law enforcement during standoff.Kearney man sentenced after injecting meth, shooting at law enforcement during standoff KANSAS CITY, Mo.(KCTV) - A Kearney man will spend 14 years in prison after prosecutors say he fired at law enforcement from inside his home during a standoff.Clay County prosecutors said Scott Blau was sentenced for assault in the 2nd degree, assault in the 4th degree, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting/interfering with an arrest.Authorities say the incident started when officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving an armed suspect.Officials set up a perimeter and called in the Clay County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team.A witness at the scene told law enforcement the man had been awake for 36 hours.Prosecutors said Blau refused to come out of the residence, and during the standoff, shots fired from inside the home went through interior and exterior walls, damaging a neighboring home.Blau came out of the home with a makeshift shield after tactical gas was used.Deputies used less-than-lethal shotgun rounds to take him into custody.Blau later told investigators he had been injecting methamphetamine and seeing things inside the house.No bystanders of law enforcement were hurt during the standoff, prosecutors said.“Kearney Police officers and Clay County Sheriff’s Office STAR team members demonstrated exceptional professionalism in a dangerous situation by successfully taking the Defendant into custody while still prioritizing community safety,” said Clay County Prosecutor Zach Thompson.Prosecutors thanked the Kearney Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the court and prosecutors’ staff.Copyright 2026 KCTV.All rights reserved.Join The Conversation We want to hear what you think.Create a free account to share your thoughts.Read our community guidelines here.
