Middle school students place flags at Eagle Point National Cemetery MEDFORD, Ore. – With Memorial Day fast approaching, local middle school students gathered at Eagle Point National Cemetery on Friday morning to remember America’s heroes. Sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students from Scenic Middle School placed flags on every headstone and grave marker to help prepare the cemetery for weekend visitors and a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday. According to cemetery director Noel LaLanne, flags were placed at over 20,000 graves. “It’s a wonderful sight. They come every year- I’ve been here for four years, and they come every year,” she said. “They’re just so quick and they’re so respectful. It’s wonderful to have them come and help us.” Eagle Point National Cemetery will host their Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22. Rick Skiff, acting director for the VA SORCC, will appear alongside other guest speakers. The event will also include a performance of the National Anthem and taps performed by the Oregon Army National Guard. © 2026 KOBI-TV NBC5. All rights reserved unless otherwise stated.
