Louisiana State Senator Rick Edmonds is pointing to major legislative victories from the 2026 session while also confirming his plans to run for Congress under Louisiana’s newly redrawn congressional map. One of Edmonds’ biggest accomplishments this year was securing long-term funding for flood mitigation efforts through the Amite River Basin. Senate Bill 367, now Act 761, creates the Watershed Restoration and Conservation Fund. The fund will support projects aimed at reducing flood risks across multiple parishes impacted by the devastating 2016 flood. Edmonds said the legislation provides a dedicated funding source to help protect homes, businesses, schools, and churches from future flooding. Edmonds also highlighted a new workforce development initiative designed to better connect Louisiana students with high-demand careers. The legislation requires colleges, universities, and technical schools to provide students with clearer career pathways tied to Louisiana’s growing industries. Edmonds said the goal is to keep more graduates in the state and fill jobs connected to Louisiana’s projected $100 billion economic expansion. The senator also discussed Louisiana’s congressional redistricting process following court challenges to previous maps. Under the latest proposal, much of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and Ascension parishes would once again be grouped together in Congressional District 6. Edmonds said the revised map better reflects the Baton Rouge metro area’s shared interests and provides stronger regional representation. As a result of the new district boundaries, Edmonds confirmed he is officially running for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District seat. He said he intends to continue serving the communities he has represented throughout his legislative career and emphasized his commitment to effective government and public service.
