Two drivers hurt, 2 vehicles totaled, in crash Published 12:16 pm Monday, June 15, 2026 BAKER CITY — A Colorado woman was taken to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 84 near Baker City on June 12 that involved one elk and three vehicles.Emily Diaz, 21, of Fort Lupton, Colorado, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, according to an OSP report.The report doesn’t list which hospital.The driver of another vehicle, Rocco Chad Porter, 21, of Eagle, Idaho, went to the hospital in a private vehicle.The incident started about 3:40 a.m.on June 12 when the 2013 Infiniti SUV Diaz was driving hit an elk in the westbound lanes near milepost 317, about 13 miles southeast of Baker City, according to the OSP report.The Infiniti was disabled by the collision.The report doesn’t say whether the elk died, although animals rarely survive collisions on the freeway.While the SUV was in the right lane, a commercial truck and trailer sideswiped the Infiniti but kept driving, according to the report.Diaz and her two passengers, Juan Diaz, 50, and a one-year-old girl, both from Fort Lupton, then got out of the vehicle.Soon after, while the Infiniti was still in the right lane, a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer and driven by Porter hit the Infiniti, pushing it into the concrete median, according to the report.Both the Infiniti and the Dodge pickup were “totaled” in the collision, the report states.Police didn’t issue any citations.
