Titusville Event Aims to Spark Year‑Round Trail Use.National Trails Day arrives this weekend, and organizers in Titusville hope the celebration does more than draw people outdoors for a few hours — they want it to spark a year‑round appreciation for the Queen City Trail.Titusville Renaissance Inc.will host its annual National Trails Day event Saturday near the Jersey Bridge Trailhead, where the normally quiet stretch of trail will turn into a community gathering space.Guided nature walks, live music, birds‑of‑prey demonstrations, art activities and educational exhibits are planned throughout the day, all aimed at showing visitors just how much the trail has to offer. The celebration is part of a nationwide effort to highlight the value of outdoor recreation.According to the Rails‑to‑Trails Conservancy, trails contribute more than $34 billion each year to the U.S.economy through tourism, recreation and local spending.Locally, organizers say they hope the event helps residents — especially younger visitors — see the trail as more than a place to walk or bike.“We especially encourage it with families and young kids, because as they grow, they’re always interested in something new and different,” said Emily Altomare, board president of Titusville Renaissance Inc.“So they’re learning about something else.” National advocates say the message resonates far beyond Titusville.Brandi Horton, vice president of communications for the Rails‑to‑Trails Conservancy, said trails play a vital role in strengthening communities.“I often think about our trails in Pennsylvania and all across the country as an invitation to get outside,” Horton said.“They get us outside, meeting our neighbors, really building those connections that are so important to have a thriving place.” While Saturday’s celebration lasts only a few hours, organizers hope the experience inspires people to return throughout the year.National Trails Day events in Titusville begin Saturday along the Queen City Trail near the Jersey Bridge Trailhead. The celebration is free and open to the public.
