Firefighter badly hurt in Searsmont to be released from hospital.Firefighter badly hurt in Searsmont to be released from hospital Montville firefighter Jacob Spaulding is heading home Monday, one month after he suffered burn injuries responding to a deadly explosion and fire at the Robbins Lumber Mill in Searsmont.Montville firefighter Jacob Spaulding is heading home Monday, one month after he suffered burn injuries responding to a deadly explosion and fire at the Robbins Lumber Mill in Searsmont.Montville firefighter Jacob Spaulding is heading home Monday, one month after he suffered burn injuries responding to a deadly explosion and fire at the Robbins Lumber Mill in Searsmont.One month after the deadly Searsmont lumber mill fire, one of the firefighters injured during the response is finally going home.Montville firefighter Jacob Spaulding has been recovering at Maine Medical Center in Portland from burn injuries that his father said made him "unrecognizable" ever since the May 15 fire at the Robbins Lumber Mill.His father, a retired firefighter, had said that his son faced a long road to recovery but was showing signs of improvement.According to officials with Liberty Fire & Rescue, Spaulding has been "fighting hard" ever since and is expected to be released from the hospital around noon on Monday.Officials say he is expected to stop by the Montville Fire Station around 2:30 p.m.to be welcomed by friends, family and fellow firefighters.The creator of a GoFundMe effort to help with the family's medical bills, who purports to be the mother of Spaulding's girlfriend, says there are "very special plans" for the firefighter's release.So far, that fundraising effort has raised more than $23,000 to go directly to medical costs and supporting the family amid their loss of income.Spaulding was among 12 people (and 7 firefighters) who were injured in the Searsmont disaster.Two firefighters also died, including Andrew Cross, who died on May 15, and Wayne Woodbury, who succumbed to his injuries at Maine Medical Center on Sunday.The second portion of a dignified transfer of Woodbury's remains is also planned for Monday, with officials planning a procession from Augusta to Belfast.
