Police Say Carencro Man Gave Pregnancy-Terminating Medication Without Victim's Knowledge.Carencro Man Accused Of Secretly Giving Pregnant Woman Abortion Medication, Infant Remains Hospitalized A Carencro man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he secretly gave abortion medication to a pregnant victim without her knowledge, resulting in a medical emergency and the premature birth of an infant who remains hospitalized.According to the Carencro Police Department, 39-year-old Jamelle Kelly was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree feticide and domestic abuse battery of a pregnant victim.Investigation Began After Victim Was Hospitalized Carencro Police Chief David Anderson said the investigation began on May 29 when detectives learned that a pregnant victim had allegedly been given medication intended to terminate her pregnancy without her consent.Police say the victim became seriously ill after receiving the medication and was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.As her condition worsened, doctors were forced to perform an emergency cesarean section.Infant Delivered At Just 23 Weeks According to investigators, the victim delivered her baby at just 23 weeks gestation.Chief Anderson said the infant weighed approximately one pound at birth and required immediate medical intervention.The baby remains hospitalized as of June 12 and is expected to remain under medical care for an extended period of time due to the extreme prematurity of the birth.Serious Felony Charges Filed Kelly has been charged with one count of attempted first-degree feticide and one count of domestic abuse battery of a pregnant victim.Louisiana law defines feticide offenses as criminal acts that result in harm to an unborn child under specific circumstances.Authorities have not announced a bond amount for Kelly at this time.Investigation Remains Active Carencro Police say detectives continue to investigate the case and have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed.The case has drawn significant attention because of the severity of the allegations and the medical consequences that investigators say followed.Anyone with information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Carencro Police Department.LOOK: Baby names that are illegal around the world Gallery Credit: Annalise Mantz
