Deputies arrest Cheyenne man in connection with Drew Court fire CHEYENNE (WNE) — Local authorities have arrested a Cheyenne man for third-degree arson in connection with a fire that damaged several campers and a house early Monday morning.At approximately 1:07 a.m., Laramie County Sheriff’s deputies and Laramie County Fire District 1 personnel responded to the 1000 block of Drew Court for a fire.Several campers and a house were burning and severely damaged.Following an investigation into the incident, deputies arrested Bocephus Osman.According to a statement from the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, evidence indicates that Osman started the fire.Osman was questioned and subsequently booked on charges of third-degree arson.He is considered innocent of all charges until proven guilty in a court of law.This is an active and ongoing investigation.LCSO is asking that anyone with information regarding the incident to call 307-633-4763.—--------------------------- Black bear found in barn in east Cheyenne, captured by Game and Fish CHEYENNE (WNE) — A black bear was captured after being spotted early Tuesday morning in the 6000 block of East Pershing Boulevard, near Whitney Road.According to a Facebook post by the Cheyenne Police Department, the bear was found inside a barn in the 6000 block of Pershing.It was safely captured by wildlife experts with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, tranquilized and relocated.There were no injuries to residents or the bear, according to the CPD post.—--------------------------- Wyoming’s average gas prices up nearly 10 cents a gallon CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have risen 9.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.37 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.Prices in Wyoming are 58.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and stand $1.28 per gallon higher than a year ago.The national average price of diesel has increased 0.2 cents compared to a week ago, and stands at $5.623 per gallon.According to GasBuddy price reports, the lowest price in the state Sunday was $3.85 per gallon, while the highest was $5.29, a difference of $1.44 per gallon.The national average price of gasoline has risen 5.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.48 on Monday.The national average is up 37.3 cents per gallon from a month ago.—---------------------------- VFAF backs Williams for secretary of state CODY (WNE) — The Veterans for America First has officially endorsed Rep.Rachel Williams in her campaign for Wyoming secretary of state."This endorsement means the world to me,” Williams said in response.“These brave heroes who sacrificed so much for our freedom see me as a proven conservative fighter who will deliver secure elections, cut red tape and defend the America First values they fought to protect.“Their support fuels us as we head toward the August primary election.Wyoming families deserve leaders with the same courage our veterans have shown our country, and that's exactly what I'll bring to the secretary of state's office." VFAF is a national organization of veterans and first responders dedicated to advancing America First principles and supporting conservative candidates who prioritize national security, freedom and limited government.—------------------------- Grizzly that attacked Yellowstone hikers was likely mother with cubs JACKSON (WNE) — A grizzly bear mother with cubs was likely responsible for an attack that left two hikers in Yellowstone National Park seriously injured on Monday, the park said in a Friday update.The attack occurred on the Mystic Falls Trail near Old Faithful.Evidence from the attack suggests that the female grizzly involved likely had two or three cubs born over the winter.The park’s investigation is ongoing.The park also released the ages of the hikers, who were brothers, on Friday.One is 15 years old and the other is 28.Emergency responders transported them to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by helicopter following the incident.As of Tuesday, one brother was in serious condition and the other was in critical condition.A spokesperson from the hospital did not respond to a request for a Friday status update by press time.The conflict came “a little early” for the park, Tim Reid, Yellowstone’s chief ranger, said at a Wednesday meeting of Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly managers.“This whole winter has set the stage for everything being early,” Reid said.“The area this incident occurred in is outside of Old Faithful where normally you’re postholing in snow.Visitors have taken advantage of good hiking conditions.” —--------------- Firefighters contain escaped controlled burn on Snake River Ranch JACKSON (WNE) — Firefighters contained a roughly 2-acre fire on the Snake River Ranch Saturday after a controlled burn escaped and climbed into an aspen stand.The fire started after a relatively normal April in terms of precipitation and temperature, according to data from the Jackson weather station.The fire danger was also “low” Saturday, according to Teton Interagency Fire, a coalition of firefighting officials in the Jackson region.Still, Brian Carr, a Jackson Hole Fire/EMS battalion chief, said private citizens thinking of using a fire to dispose of brush or agricultural waste should do so carefully.“These guys do this as professional ranch hands, and even they had to get help from the fire department,” he said Saturday on the ranch.“If you’re a homeowner burning stuff, the safety message is definitely ‘Be vigilant.’ ” Carr said the ranch had “all the proper protections in place.” “But things happen,” he added.The fire started as a controlled burn east of Highway 390 on a portion of the ranch just across from a geodome glamping operation on state trust land.At some point, Carr said the burn began to “spot,” which is when sparks or embers leave the perimeter of an existing blaze and start sparking additional fires.Ranch personnel called for help and were able to keep the fire under control until professional firefighters arrived and took over.Because of the dry grass in the area, the fire was able to climb into the trees, and professional sawyers were dispatched to fell some trees after a few fell down, creating a safety hazard for firefighters.Jackson Hole Fire/EMS and Teton Village Special Fire District fought the fire together, Carr said.Professionals were called in around 11:50 a.m.Saturday and had deemed the fire contained around 2 p.m., when Carr spoke with the Jackson Hole Daily on scene.—-------------------
