ROME — Rome native Paul A. Lucci Jr. has been promoted to brigadier general in the Army Reserve Medical Command as part of a 30-year military career, according to Army officials. The promotion ceremony was held at the C.W. Bill Young Armed Forces Reserves Center in Florida on May 31, where Lucci was joined by his mother, Kathleen, wife Pattira, and other family, friends and fellow soldiers. Lucci is the son of Kathleen and Paul Lucci Sr. of Rome. Lucci began his military career in 1995 as an enlisted soldier assigned to the 331st Combat Support Hospital in Utica. He was then commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps in 1998. Lucci served two tours in Afghanistan in multiple units. Lucci is a graduate of Nazareth University, Webster University and received a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He received a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and other awards. AR-MEDCOM Commanding General Beth A. Salisbury presided over the ceremony and the pinning. The ceremony included the presentation of the General Officer's belt, a tradition that has dated back to World War II, and the uncasing and unfurling of the One Star Flag. Officials said Lucci will oversee bases in both Tampa, Florida and San Antonio, Texas, where he will reside. Keep it Clean. Please avoid obscene, vulgar, lewd, racist or sexually-oriented language.
