Honor Flight New England marks 70th flight for local veterans to Washington.Honor Flight New England marks 70th flight for local veterans to Washington, D.C.The latest Honor Flight to fly out of New Hampshire didn't just mark a special occasion for the veterans on board, but the organization itself.Sixty veterans arrived at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport early Sunday morning, bound for Washington, D.C.The trip marked Honor Flight New England's 70th flight since the program's founding.The trip is entirely free for the Korean and Vietnam War veterans taking part.This latest flight pushes the total number of veterans flown past the 2,600 mark for the organization.Sunday, dozens of supporters packed the airport terminal to send the veterans off before they arrived.The crowd greeted them with handshakes, hugs, salutes, and repeated thanks for their service, all surrounded by red, white, and blue.The New England chapter is part of the broader national Honor Flight Network.To date, the group has taken hundreds of thousands of veterans to see war memorials and monuments in Washington.>> Download the free WMUR app to get updates on the go << Among those in the crowd Sunday was Jacqueline Fortier.She says her father served during the Korean War.Even though her father has passed, she says the send-off is personal."I come out here to let (the veterans) know that there are people who care about what happened to them and that they are appreciated," Fortier said.Raquel Lorenzetti is a current Army Reserve member and third-generation military family member, who attended her second Honor Flight send-off Sunday.She says she returns to show up for veterans who never had a proper welcome home."I'm very happy to be part of this," Lorenzetti said."I love my country and love that I'm able to support all of the service members." "We Ride So They Fly," a fundraising motorcycle ride, is scheduled for June 27 out of Manchester Harley-Davidson.All proceeds benefit the Honor Flight New England program.
