Grand Island man charged with DUI after motorcycle strikes fallen tree.GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man has been charged with driving under the influence after his motorcycle struck a fallen tree on Sunday, May 31.Rodney Gleason, 46, has been charged with DUI – alcohol, first offense, a Class W misdemeanor, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, a Class 3 felony and driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor.Gleason was arraigned in Hall County Court on Monday, June 1.His bail was set at 10 percent of $10,000.A preliminary hearing has been set for June 22 at 3 p.m.According to the probable cause statement, on Sunday at 12:50 a.m., officers with the Grand Island Police Department responded to a traffic accident where a motorcycle is reported to have struck a fallen tree.Officers identified the driver as Gleason from previous law enforcement contact.While speaking, officers noted the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Gleason’s breath.Gleason completed several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests but declined to complete all of them.He submitted a chemical test of his breath and the results showed that he was over the legal limit, per the GIPD.An administrative records check showed that Gleason’s driver’s license was suspended and that he was a convicted felon.Officers located a wooden baton in the bag on the motorcycle that Gleason had been driving and a four-inch fixed blade knife was taken from a sheath on his person.Gleason was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
