An armed suspect who fatally wounded a 63-year-old man Monday night in the Uptown neighborhood was shot by police after pointing a weapon at them during a foot pursuit, Chicago police said. Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday, officers on patrol in the Uptown neighborhood responded to a call of shots fired. A preliminary investigation revealed a 63-year-old man was involved in an argument with a known individual when the person pulled out a weapon and opened fire striking the victim multiple times, police said. The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The gunman fled north on the 4800 block of Clark Street where a foot pursuit ensued. When officers caught up to the gunman on Argyle Street, he pointed his weapon towards them. Officers opened fire, hitting the suspect and then provided medical help on the scene, police said. The suspect was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was listed in critical condition, police said. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Three officers were taken to a local hospital for observation after the shooting. The Chicago police Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability were notified. The officers involved in the police shooting will be placed on routine administrative duty for at least 30 days.
