Student artists transform TARC bus into moving canvas | whas11.com.LOUISVILLE, Ky.— A new TARC bus designed by student artists has officially hit the road in Louisville.TARC, the Portland Museum and Jefferson County Public Schools unveiled the 2026 Design-a-Bus contest winners and the new bus design Thursday at the Portland Museum. This marks the 26th year for the contest, which is open to elementary, middle and high school students in Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt counties in Kentucky, as well as Floyd and Clark counties in southern Indiana. This year's theme was "Portals of Transition." Students were asked to reflect on a period of change, when they explored or tried something new, and create an illustration of that experience. The theme reflects TARC's partnership with the Portland Museum, which is expanding with the new AHOY Children's Museum.“The Portland Museum is growing, and so is our sense of adventure,” said Katy Delahanty, executive director of the museum.“Through our partnership with TARC, each bus becomes a traveling invitation, a portal to play carrying the spirit of the new AHOY Children’s Museum into every neighborhood.” The 10 winning submissions are featured on a custom TARC bus wrap. Each individual piece of student artwork is also displayed inside the bus on interior display cards.TARC officials said the bus will operate on all routes and serve as the flagship bus for special events and parades throughout the Louisville area for one year.“The Design-a-Bus is a contest TARC staff and our city look forward to every year,” TARC Executive Director Ozzy Gibson said in a release.“We’re excited for a great partnership with the Portland Museum as they expand, with the #5 Portland-Poplar Level route of the New TARC Network providing increased access to their new addition.” The 2026 winning students are: - Madalyn N.| Marion C.Moore - Luca C.| Hawthorne Elementary - Jayden G.H.| Marion C.Moore - Danie S.| Western Middle School for the Arts - Chrissy G.| Western Middle School for the Arts - Cami K.| Crestwood Elementary - Dallas G.| Nativity Academy at St.Boniface - Yadso M.| Marion C.Moore - Xavier W.Agnes School - Virgilio G.| Laukhuf Elementary
