Crow Wing SWCD to host free soil health events.BRAINERD — The Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting free soil health events on June 23 near Brainerd, and on Aug.26 near Pequot Lakes.These events will inform farmers and land managers of ways to improve the health of their soil.The events will include soil health demonstrations led by soil health educators and field tours led by local farmers who are implementing soil health practices on their farms.The June 23 event will feature rotational grazing and livestock infrastructure, and the Aug.26 event will feature no-till drill seeded pastures and soil infiltration information.ADVERTISEMENT “These events are about providing farmers with the knowledge and resources they need to improve their soil health,” said Melissa Barrick, Crow Wing SWCD manager, in a news release.“It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow farmers and soil health professionals who are passionate about sustainable management practices.” The June 23 event is from 9:30 a.m.to 1:30 p.m.and will be at a farm near Brainerd.26 event is from 2 p.m.to 6 p.m.at a farm near Pequot Lakes.There is no cost to attend, and both events will include food.Pre-registration is preferred so the food can be planned.To register for either or both events, visit cwswcd.org/soil-health-101 or call 218-828-6197.These events are made possible with funding provided by the University of Minnesota Office for Soil Health and Minnesota Natural Resources Conservation Service.The Crow Wing SWCD provides local leadership and implements voluntary soil and water conservation projects through programs and partnerships throughout Crow Wing County and the surrounding areas.
