Inmate at New Castle Correctional Facility charged with rape.Inmate at New Castle Correctional Facility charged with rape NEW CASTLE, IN — A prisoner at the New Castle Correctional Facility is accused of twice sexually assaulting a fellow inmate while they were incarcerated at the Correctional Industrial Facility in Pendleton.Convicted sex offender Cameron J.Thompson, 44, is charged in Madison Circuit Court 1 with two counts of rape, a Level 3 felony carrying up to 16 years in prison, and intimidation, a Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-momth sentence.In a court document, an investigator with the Indiana Department of Correction alleges Thompson twice attacked the other inmate in a cell in June 2024.The accuser said Thompson had threatened him with a knife and warned that he would leave prison "in a body bag" if he reported the assaults.According to an affidavit, Thompson at first denied his accuser's claims.He later maintained the sexual activity had been consensual.More: Muncie man accused of beating, raping, confining woman A trial date has not yet been set in the Madison County case.Thompson, from the Evansville area, was most recently convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon in 2022.His projected release date is in June 2028, according to state Department of Correction records.His record also includes convictions for crimes including child molesting, burglary, possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug and failure to register as a sex offender.Douglas Walker is a news reporter at The Star Press.Contact him at 765-213-5851 or at dwalker@muncie.gannett.com.This article originally appeared on Muncie Star Press: New Castle prison inmate charged with rape, intimidation
