Sen. Wyden blames Iran war & Trump’s policies for rising costs for families OREGON – On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden discussed what he calls ‘Donald Trump’s energy affordability crisis,’ saying the administration’s policies and war has driven up prices for families on several fronts. In a Wednesday press call, Democrats said Donald Trump and Republicans promised to lower energy costs but instead fuel prices and utility bills have increased. Senator Wyden, who attended the call said this creates hardships for working families. He said as travel season begins people are wincing at fuel prices on top of struggling to keep the lights on in their own homes. He blamed the war in Iran and Republican policy decisions regarding clean energy, “I developed the biggest clean energy legislation ever passed in the United States. It kicked off a manufacturing boom; wind and solar and battery projects all over the nation. Republicans have decided to gut those industries, and they did it to pay for tax breaks for the very wealthy and the corporations.” Senator Wyden added that the most important step for the Trump administration to take is to end the war. Meanwhile, the senator said he will continue to fight for quick, clean energy. © 2026 KOBI-TV NBC5. All rights reserved unless otherwise stated.
