Willmar, Minnesota, elementary student to vie for Little Miss Juneteenth.WILLMAR — Zenida Momanyi, the daughter of Zethukia Momanyi and a student at Lakeland Elementary in Willmar, is one of six contestants for Little Miss Juneteenth Minnesota 2026 in the third annual Miss Juneteenth Minnesota State Pageant, according to a news release from Miss Juneteenth Minnesota Pageant.The pageant takes place Saturday, June 6, at North Central University’s Trask Worship Center, 1400 Elliot Ave., Minneapolis.Doors open at 1 p.m.and the main event begins at 2 p.m.General admission tickets are $20 and available at the door.ADVERTISEMENT The Miss Juneteenth Minnesota State Pageant inspires participants to become confident public speakers, embrace their diversity, understand their self-worth and gain poise.The judging criteria include community involvement, originality and overall presentation.One of the pageant’s goals is to educate the contestants about the origins and purpose of Juneteenth.Juneteenth, or June 19, is the traditional commemoration date of the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.“These remarkable individuals are cultivating a deeper understanding of their unique gifts and talents, as well as their knowledge of history, leadership and community,” said the Rev.William Pierce, pageant adviser, in the news release.Pageant contestants participated in a variety of workshops to help them build their futures.They are beacons of resilience, hope and leadership for Black families across the state, and vital forces uplifting, reshaping and strengthening the next generation of leaders.”
