Judge Stephen W. Maroney sworn in to Tennessee Court of Appeals Western Section

Governor Lee officiates investiture ceremony at Union University in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. (WBBJ) - Gov. Bill Lee swore in Judge Stephen W. Maroney as the newest judge on the Tennessee Court of Appeals Western Section Wednesday during an investiture ceremony at Union University.

Family, friends and members of Tennessee’s legal community attended as Maroney took the oath of office. The appointment follows nearly three decades of practicing law and several years serving as a chancery court judge.

“Even when I was in law school, I wondered if I might ever become a judge one day. I practiced law for 29 years before I became a judge, so I’d say I’ve been seriously working toward this for about 10 or 12 years,” Maroney said.

New role on state’s second-highest civil court

Maroney said the appellate position carries a different responsibility than his previous roles, one centered on reviewing cases through research, writing and the application of the law.

As a judge on the state’s second-highest court for civil appeals, Maroney said he is focused on preserving public trust in the judicial system and faithfully upholding the Constitution.

Maroney said he is honored by the opportunity to serve and looks forward to continuing his commitment to the people of West Tennessee and the state through his new role on the Court of Appeals.
